PDF and Images
Images are files that contain graphical information, usually a photograph, drawing, or some other type of visual media. For example, common image file formats are JPG, PNG, and TIFF. GIF files can also be still images.
PDF files are like document files. They usually contain text, links, and sometimes images, but they are viewed universally on all systems. In other words, you can draft a PDF file on a Windows PC and it will look the same on an iPhone, MacBook, or even a television.
This can make PDF files look similar to images. However, PDF files are distributed as documents, not images. This means you can't upload PDF files to image-based systems. For example, you can't upload PDFs to Instagram, because Instagram only accepts image files.
Why should you convert PDF to JPG?
Having a JPG version of a PDF lets you do a lot more with that document. As an example, let's say you have a print ad in PDF for your restaurant. If you want to share that ad on social media, you won't be able to, because most social media sites – Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc. – don't accept PDF uploads.
However, if you convert that PDF to JPG, you can directly upload it to those social networks!
This is just one example of why converting PDF files to image files can be helpful. This can also be helpful in reducing file size, as some PDFs can take up more drive space than image files. It may also make it possible to convert documents in your favorite image software, such as Lightroom or Gimp. There are several reasons why converting your files might be a good idea!
